Lake Como, known for its opulent villas, elegant charm, and scenic beauty, has long been associated with luxury—traits that are central to the James Bond franchise.
James Bond’s visual imagery is in fact characterized by its luxurious settings: from the snowy peaks of the Alps to the sun-soaked beaches of the Caribbean or the landscapes of Lake Como, each setting is meticulously chosen to reflect the opulence and adventure associated with Bond.
James Bond’s legacy at Lake Como is primarily linked to the filming of Casino Royale, which features two iconic locations that have become synonymous with the character’s cinematic adventures: Villa del Balbianello and Villa La Gaeta.
The Setting
When Hitesh reached out he talked us about his love for James Bond and we were really excited for this mood that added an undeniable layer of elegance and excitement to his proposal here on Lake Como.
We decided to use the Gardens of Villa Melzi for the proposal and, after that, to make a boat tour to Villa del Balbianello.
The villa’s refined architecture and serene atmosphere created an intimate setting for the proposal. The romantic ambiance, paired with its historical charm, immediately set the tone for what was to come.
After the proposal, we continued the photoshoot with a private boat tour, on a classic wooden boat, across Lake Como. A wooden boat on Lake Como exudes a sense of old-world charm and timeless luxury and add a vintage touch that pairs beautifully with the cinematic, James Bond-inspired aesthetic we were aiming for during this proposal shoot. So this boat ride itself added a touch of drama.
We cruised past the charming lakeside villages and lush hillsides and we reached Villa del Balbianello.
Here, for this couple, the opportunity to pretend to “drive” the boat gave us a chance to capture more playful, lighthearted moments that showcase the couple’s connection while still staying within the refined, romantic atmosphere of the day. From a cinematic perspective, these playful shots work wonders. The wooden boat gliding across the pristine waters of Lake Como provides a stunning contrast to the couple’s joyful energy, allowing for dynamic images that tell a more well-rounded story—one that balances elegance with authenticity.
