When she saw the ring, she stopped. Then the tears came — the kind that arrive before you have time to think, before you can compose yourself or decide how you want to react. Pure, unguarded joy. She laughed and cried at the same time, her hands over her mouth, shaking her head in disbelief. For a long moment she seemed unable to accept that this was actually happening.

The Moorish temple sits at the edge of Villa Melzi’s gardens, facing directly onto the lake. If you stand on the balcony, the view stretches across the water toward Villa Carlotta and the hills of Tremezzo — one of the most quietly spectacular backdrops on Lake Como. Behind you, the botanical gardens unfold in layers of ancient trees and neoclassical stonework. It is a location that works in every direction.
